According to the League of American Theatres and Producers, Broadway ticket sales and attendence for each of the past 20 weeks have bested the marks set during that time period last year.
Grosses during the 20-week period were $345.6 million, a 10.8 percent jump from 2004's $312.1 million. Paid attendance, meanwhile, was 5.1 million, up from 4.7 million—a 6.6 percent increase.
Also on the upswing was the number of playing weeks on Broadway. For the time period in 2004, it was 597; this year it was 661.
Popular shows have helped drive the numbers up. Five offerings played to over 100 percent capacity during the week ending Aug. 7, 2005; eight shows played to over 95 percent capacity.
The League of American Theatres and Producers reported a gross of $769 million in New York for the 2004-05 season. The number of tickets sold for Broadway during the 2004-05 season reached 11.5 million.
