He's the silent type, but Los Angeles wants more. Marcel Marceau, considered the world's greatest mime, will extend his LA engagement at the Geffen Playhouse an extra week, performing through Aug. 25.
Marceau is most recognized for his created persona, Bip, a white-faced clown in a striped shirt and top hat. His mimodramas include The Cage, The Mask Maker, The Public Garden, Youth, Maturity, Old Age and Death and his most recent creation, The Bowler Hat.
A two-time Emmy winner ("The Maurice Chevalier Show," "Laugh In"), Marceau has been honored with France's highest distinctions, naming him an Officier de la Legion d'Honneur and a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit. His films include "Barbarella," "Shanks" and Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie."
Tickets are $49-$45. The Geffen Playhouse is at 10886 Le Conte Avenue in Westwood, CA. For reservations, call (310) 208-5454. The Geffen Playhouse is on the web at http://www.geffenplayhouse.com.
