Lena Dunham Takes On Murder of Kitty Genovese in "Girls" | Playbill

News Lena Dunham Takes On Murder of Kitty Genovese in "Girls" According to Showbiz411.com, Lena Dunham will recreate the infamous Queens murder of Kitty Genovese for an episode of her hit HBO TV series, "Girls," which has been renewed for a fifth season.

In a yet-to-be released episode, the character of Adam (Adam Driver) reportedly puts on a play set during the time of Genovese's murder in 1964.

The 28-year-old bar manager was stabbed to death, and over the half-hour grisly stabbing and screaming, 38 eyewitnesses failed to call the police. That statistic was later refuted. The case became a tabloid and nationwide obsession.

A real play about the murder has not yet been produced; however, The Screams of Kitty Genovese, a musical inspired by the events, received its New York City premiere as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2006. It featured music by Will Todd and book and lyrics by David Simpatico.
