Peter Sham (book and lyrics) and Brad Carroll (music) penned the musical comedy, expanding the small cast to more than 25. The West End and Broadway comedy had a 2000-10 Broadway revival that was directed by Stanley Tucci.

The Depression-set comedy concerns a desperate Cleveland opera manager who must think on his feet when the star of his gala production is incapacitated. His assistant steps in, arousing the passions of a scheming soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife and a matron of the arts.
The creative team includes musical supervisor Paul Gemignani, musical director Colin Billing, choreographer Randy Skinner, designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Tim Mitchell, sound designers Terry Jardine and Nick Lidster and orchestrator Chris Walker. Lend Me a Tenor (the play) premiered in the West End at the Globe Theatre in 1986 where it received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Comedy. In 1989 it received its Broadway premiere, receiving seven Tony Award nominations, winning two, as well as four Drama Desk Awards. In March 2010, Stanley Tucci's production opened on Broadway with a cast including Anthony LaPaglia, Tony Shalhoub and Justin Bartha. Lend Me a Tenor has been translated into 16 languages and produced in more than 25 countries.
