"It is indeed an honor to participate in the forthcoming tribute to diva Marian Anderson on October 19, 2005, commemorating the 50th anniversary of her debut at the Metropolitan Opera," Price said in a statement. "Ms. Anderson was both a great American and a world treasure that represented the best that there is in all of us artistically and personally. She was a great inspiration and role model for me and many others."
The event at Alice Tully Hall will be hosted by soprano Martina Arroyo; singers scheduled to speak include Robert Bass, Harolyn Blackwell, Grace Bumbry, Denyce Graves, Shirley Verrett, and Roberta Peters, who appeared with Anderson at her Met debut in 1955.
The evening will also include 60 minutes of film footage of Anderson in performances, interviews, and newsreels.
Tickets are $50-$125. Call the Met Guild at 212-769-7009, visit www.metguild.com, or go to the Alice Tully Hall box office to buy tickets.
