The Phoenix Symphony has announced that English tenor and Tony Honoree for Excellence Alfie Boe will instead perform. Wilkinson, who is best known for originating the role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables on Broadway and the West End, was originally set to perform in Arizona with the Symphony in Mesa on February 27 and 28 but had to postpone the concerts due to illness. The performance dates were moved to June 4 and 5 at the Mesa Arts Center.
Boe, fresh off the success of his performance as Valjean in the Les Misérables 25th Anniversary concert and the 2013 PBS special "Alfie Boe: Storyteller at The Royal Albert Hall," will make his Phoenix Symphony debut on June 5, replacing Wilkinson's scheduled spot. He will perform a collection of classical, folk and Broadway hits. He will join the Broadway revival of Les Miz later this summer as Jean Valjean.
