The curtain came down on the original Broadway production seventeen years ago, and the recent Broadway revival will close in December, but ever since the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical premiered in London in 1981, the show has always been playing somewhere in the world. The Broadway production will celebrate 35 years since opening on Broadway October 7.

Throughout the years many actors have taken on the iconic role of Grizabella, the glamour cat and belter of the musical’s showstopper, “Memory.”

Look Back at the "Memory" of Grizabellas Past

Based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the original Broadway production of Cats opened in 1982 at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre (currently home to Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock – The Musical), where it ran for 7,485 performances and 18 years. The musical was originally produced on Broadway by Cameron Mackintosh, The Really Useful Company Limited, David Geffen and The Shubert Organization.

Mamie Parris, currently stars as the glamour cat at the Neil Simon Theatre in the Broadway revival of Cats.
