News Lily-Rose Depp Will Be Isadora Duncan in Upcoming Film "The Dancer"
Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of French singer Vanessa Paradis and American actor Johnny Depp, has landed a leading role in the new film "The Dancer" — about American dance pioneer Loïe Fuller — from director Stephanie Di Giusto.

Depp, according to Variety, has been cast as San Francisco native Isadora Duncan, who achieved worldwide fame as a dance prodigy. Duncan's sole Broadway credit was in the chorus of the 1896 original musical comedy The Geisha.

The film will chronicle Duncan's relationship with Fuller, who will be played by French musician and actress Soko. Fuller was known for her dances involving long skirts that she whirled around herself like butterfly wings. She was also a pioneer in the use of colored electrical light on stage in the 1890s.

The cast also includes Gaspard Ulliel, Melanie Thierry, Francois Damiens and Louis-Do du Lencquesaing.

Director Di Giusto penned the screenplay with Thomas Bidegain and Sarah Thiebaud. Di Giusto, who is also a video artist, will "give the project a unique visual identity," according to the industry website.

Filming begins Sept. 28. A release date has not been announced.
