Lion King director Julie Taymor will receive a Japan Musical Award on Nov. 4 at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City in honor of her "outstanding achievements on Broadway and the development and growth of the Japanese musical industry."

Taymor's award package comprises a silver Tiffany bowl and a $10,000 honorarium, half of which is presented to a nonprofit organization of her choice.

The Japanese Musical Awards are determined by a jury of 11 Japanese theatre critics and professionals.
