Killam, an alumnus of the Groundlings comedy troupe in Los Angeles, has been a member of the "SNL" comedy sketch players since 2010. EW reported that several actors competed for the coveted assignment. Comedians playing the president or presidential candidates on the show usually appear frequently in high-profile sketches. Among some of the best-known were Chevy Chase, who played President Gerald Ford; Dana Carvey, who played President George H.W. Bush; Will Ferrell, who played President George W. Bush (also on Broadway in You're Welcome America); Phil Hartman, who played President Bill Clinton; Tina Fey, who played vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin; and Fred Armisen, who played President Barack Obama.
Killam could debut his impression as early as the season premiere, Oct. 3.
