The revival of the 1993 West End production of Grease will open on Aug. 8; previews begin July 25. The show will replace Michael Grandage's outgoing – and possibly Broadway-bound - revival of Guys and Dolls, which ends on April 14.

As well as producer David Ian, the judging panel on the television show "Grease is the Word" will include promoter David Gest (best known as Liza Minnelli's ex-husband) and choreographer Brian Friedman, who has choreographed for Britney Spears.

Their objective will be to find the next Sandy and Danny, the roles made famous by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in the 1978 movie version of the Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey musical. Carole Demas and Barry Bostwick created those roles on Broadway.

Zoe Ball will present "Grease is the Word," which will be broadcast by the ITV network beginning in April. The show follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful BBC show "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?," which discovered Connie Fisher for the current Andrew Lloyd Webber-produced West End revival of The Sound of Music.

The BBC will also be airing their own follow up to "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" - on which Ian and Lloyd Webber collaborated - with "Any Dream Will Do," which will cast a West End revival of Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Grease received its world premiere as a play with music in Chicago’s Kingston Mines Theatre in 1971, before reaching Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre as a fully staged musical the following year. Broadway will welcome its own revival of Grease this summer; the leads in that cast are also being picked via reality TV in the show "Grease: You're the One That I Want."
