Classic Arts News London Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians Try High-Tech Tuxedo Designed to Keep Cool The U.K. retailer Marks & Spencer has tested a new high-tech tuxedo on musicians of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The machine-washable suit, made of a fabric called Coolmax, is designed to keep the wearer cool by moving moisture away from the body. Coolmax is a mixture of wool and a high-tech breathable fabric.

LPO musicians wore the new dinner suits while performing with Glyndebourne Festival Opera last summer. Bob St. John Wright, the orchestra's first violinist, said, "It gets incredibly hot in the pit. This suit feels half the weight of the usual tails we wear."

According to the Independent, the LPO musicians are wearing the new suits for their 2005-06 season at Wigmore Hall.

Marks & Spencer sells the Coolmax dinner suit for Ô£129.
