The musical, by Terrence McNally (book), Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) is now booking to Sept. 6.
Based on the epic novel by E. L. Doctorow, Ragtime (itself a term for the style of music that swept the Western World in the years before and during the First World War) tells the story of three families — one rich and established, one Jewish and immigrant, one African-American.
Starring Maria Friedman in a show produced by her sister Sonia, this is a musical which distills the social, cultural and political experience of a generation of early twentieth-century Americans into the experience of three sets of people who seem gulfs apart but whose lives are fated to intertwine with dramatic effect.
