News London's Royal Court Buys Into Ravenhill’s Product Ahead of the Donmar Warehouse premiere of The Cut, due in February 2006, Mark Ravenhill will have another show on in London.

His play Product will transfer from Edinburgh to the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Upstairs. It will play three dates, Sept. 14, 16 and 17.

It was the Royal Court, together with Out Of Joint, that helped make Ravenhill a star writer with his first play, Shopping and F*cking. That transferred to the West End and toured the world (it opened in New York in 1998). Other Ravenhill plays to have played London include Some Explicit Polaroids, Mother Clapp’s Molly House and Handbag.

Product is performed by Ravenhill himself. It depicts his attempts to persuade the young actress Amy that his script can save her career. And his story features love and explosions. According to a press release, the play “celebrates the terrorist as bogeyman — and the erotic thrill of being blown sky-high.”

The show ran at the Traverse in Edinburgh and was first seen at the Menier Chocolate Factory in South London. Lucy Morrison directs, with designs by Mat Ort.
