Aisha Jawando will take on the starring role of Tina Turner, succeeding Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, who will join the Broadway company later this fall.

Aisha Jawando will step into the starring role of London’s Tina—The Tina Turner Musical beginning October 8 at the Aldwych Theatre. A member of the show’s original opening-night cast, Jawando originated the role of Turner’s sister, Alline Bullock, and has covered the role of Tina since its 2018 premiere.

She will succeed the show’s current star, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, who departs the London production of Tina—The Tina Turner Musical to join the Broadway company this fall.

American actor Adrienne Warren, who earned an Olivier Award nomination for her electrifying performance as Turner in the London world premiere, will repeat her work in the Broadway production that begins previews October 12 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Opening night is set for November 7.

The London cast of Tina also includes Ashley Zhangazha as Ike Turner, with Tsemaye Bob-Egbe as Tina at certain performances. The company also includes Madeline Appiah, Irene-Myrtle Forrester, Howard Gossington, Francesca Jackson, Rhonda Graam, Ava Brennan, Jammy Kasongo, Edward Bourne, Oscar Batterham, Daniella Bowen, Chloe Chambers, Joelle Dyson, Lejaun Sheppard, Joseph Richardson, Kibong Tanji, Jayme-Lee Zanoncelli, Cameron Bernard Jones (who plays Tina’s son Craig), and Ashlee Irish (who plays Tina’s son Ronnie), and swings Gavin Alex, Derek Aidoo, Joshua Da Costa, Amandla Elynah, Hannah Jay-Allan, Angela Marie Hurst, Leisha Mollyneaux, and Samuel J. Weir. They are joined by the children’s cast who alternate the roles of Young Anna Mae, Young Alline, and Young Craig.
