The company will give two performances of composer Jonathan Dove's reduced version of the four-opera cycle, which was first presented by England's Birmingham City Opera in the 1990s. The first half, an evening-length combination of Das Rheingold and Die Walk‹re, will be performed on January 14 and 21. Siegfried and G‹tterd‹mmerung are scheduled for January 15 and 22.

The staging, a co-production with the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, will be directed by OTP artistic director Jonathan Eaton. Long Beach Opera general director Andreas Mitisek will conduct.

OTP is stretching its own presentation of the chamber Ring over two summer seasons. This first half will be performed this coming weekend.

The Long Beach Opera production will mark the first-ever Ring cycle in the Los Angeles area. The Orange County Performing Arts Center will present the Kirov Opera's Ring in September 2006, and Los Angeles Opera's long-simmering version is now scheduled for 2009.
