News Long Island Snaps and Crackles w/ NY Pops' Summermusic, June 24-Aug. 6 Now that their season at Carnegie Hall has concluded, the world-renowned orchestra, The New York Pops, will launch into its next series of concerts. With A Song In Our Heart, featuring music by the legendary Richard Rodgers, will be presented at Long Island’s Brookhaven Amphitheater and Cultural Center June 24. Joining the Pops will be special guest Maureen McGovern (Broadway’s Threepenny Opera) and possible future Pops hopefuls, the Brookhaven Youth Orchestra.

Now that their season at Carnegie Hall has concluded, the world-renowned orchestra, The New York Pops, will launch into its next series of concerts. With A Song In Our Heart, featuring music by the legendary Richard Rodgers, will be presented at Long Island’s Brookhaven Amphitheater and Cultural Center June 24. Joining the Pops will be special guest Maureen McGovern (Broadway’s Threepenny Opera) and possible future Pops hopefuls, the Brookhaven Youth Orchestra.

With A Song is part of a Pops program, the Summermusic Concert series. The program offers free concerts by the frequently sold-out symphony throughout the parks of New York. Other dates include: June 26 - when they’ll reprise the Rodgers salute at Damrosch Park (Lincoln Center), August 5 - Celebrate Brooklyn will be played at Prospect Park (of course, Brooklyn), and August 6 - at Staten Island’s Snug Harbor Cultural Center.

The Pops were founded in 1983 by music director Skitch Henderson. Some of his long list of credits include musical directing for Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby (who is responsible for his unique name), and for NBC’s Today as well as the Tonight Show. The Pops have a number of CDs including “From Berlin to Bernstein,” “The New York Pops Goes To The Movies,” and their most recent, “Magical Moments from Great Musicals.”
