The regional premiere of Distracted, under the direction of Armando Molina, began performances at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts April 1 and will continue through April 26.
Rebecca Dines stars as a mother coping with a child who has recently been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. The play that also features Jayne Deely, Suzanne Grodner, Gabriel Hoffman, Tara Blau, Elizabeth Carter, Cassidy Brown, Robert Yacko and Dena Martinez.
Distracted, according to TheatreWorks, is "the provocative story of a mother and her easily distracted, readily riled son who has been recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). But is his diagnosis correct, or is he simply reacting to an over-stimulation of TV, computers, cell phones, and video games, just like his parents, the neurotic neighbors, his clueless doctors, and everyone else living in the revved-up, wacked-out, webcast of modern life?"
The creative team includes Melpomene Katakalos (scenic design), Cathleen Edwards (costume design), Mike Palumbo (lighting design), Cliff Caruthers (sound design) and Jason Thompson (projection design).
The play is currently having its Off-Broadway debut in a separate staging by Roundabout Theatre Company. The work received its world premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in 2007. For tickets phone (650) 903-6000 or visit theatreworks.org.
