The program features Monaco Fanfares, Music for Cello and Orchestra, The Empty Pot, Irish Vapours and Capers, and The Giving Tree, based on the children's book by Shel Silverstein. Cellist Han-Na Chang and flutist James Galway appear as soloists (Irish Vapours was written for Galway); actors Jeremy Irons and Dietlinde Turban (who is also Maazel's wife) appear as narrators in The Empty Pot and The Giving Tree, respectively.
The concert is followed by a black-tie dinner.
Tonight's concert will be broadcast on the syndicated radio show The New York Philharmonic This Week during the week of May 2 (check local listings).
