In a statement, Joe Benincasa, president of The Actors Fund, said, "To produce a one-night-only benefit event takes an incredible team of performers, stage managers, producers and many others, all of whom donate their time and talent to The Fund. The Funny Girl evening was to be directed by Peter Flynn with musical direction by Seth Rudetsky.

Funny Girl features music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and a book by Isobel Lennart. Funny Girl opened at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre on March 26, 1964. Its Jule Styne-Bob Merrill score includes such tunes as "Sadie, Sadie," "Don't Rain on My Parade," "I'm the Greatest Star," "The Music That Makes Me Dance," "Who Are You Now?" and the show's anthem, "People."
