Kennedy began at the Globe as a copy editor in 1988 and was asked by then theatre critic, the late Kevin Kelly to start reviewing plays, after he read her book and magazine reviews. She has worn many hats — among them assistant book editor, assistant Living/Arts editor, assistant magazine editor, food editor, home editor — and, since 2001, has been an arts reporter.

The former assistant managing editor of the New Haven Register and Journal Courier and managing editor of the New Haven Advocate was born in Dayton, Ohio, and has earned her bachelor's degree in French history from Yale University.

Theatre writer and critic Ed Siegel served in his position at the daily since 1995. It was announced late last year that he would leave his post at The Boston Globe following the 2005-06 theatre season.

The company owned by The New York Times Company announced (Dec. 2005) a restructuring and the formation of Boston Globe Media to help maximize coverage in New England. This called for about 500 positions to be eliminated, with 160 occurring at the New England Media Group which includes the Boston paper. “Many departments of the Globe were affected by the reductions, which were achieved primarily through voluntary buyouts,” wrote Globe columnist Richard Chacón. “It appears the two areas with the greatest reductions were in advertising and the newsroom, which eliminated 31 and 36 positions, respectively.”

Variety reported that the scribe, who has been with the newspaper for more than three decades, was among the editorial staff members, along with longtime Boston associated arts writers including arts reporter Maureen Dezell, music critics Steve Morse and Richard Dyer, living/arts reporter Jack Thomas and pop culture writer Renee Graham.
