News LuPone to Perform at Shakespeare Theatre Company Gala Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, who recently concluded an acclaimed run as Rose in the City Center Encores! production of Gypsy, will be one of the performers at the upcoming Shakespeare Theatre Company Opening Gala for the Harman Center for the Arts.

The Oct. 1 evening at the D.C. venue will begin at 6 PM with the performance in the new Sidney Harman Hall. Directed by Ethan McSweeny and designed by Robert Perdziola, the production will include performances by LuPone as well as ballet dancers Nina Ananiashvili and Julio Bocca, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter accompanied by Ayami Ikeba, The Washington Ballet, the Washington Performing Arts Society's Men and Women of the Gospel Mass Choir and actors from the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A dinner dance at the National Building Museum will follow. The black-tie evening benefits the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Campaign for the Harman Center for the Arts.

The new Harman Center for the Arts comprises the existing Lansburgh Theatre (Seventh and E streets NW) and the new Sidney Harman Hall (currently under construction at Sixth and F streets NW). The Harman Center is a 21st-century expanded stage for the Shakespeare Theatre Company and Washington's performing arts community.
