John Leguizamo has also reportedly been cast in the legal thriller, which stars McConaughey as Mickey Haller, a defense attorney who works out of his Lincoln Continental. A synopsis of the novel at collider.com indicates that the tale turns on Mickey's defense of a rich playboy accused of assault, a case he uncovers with private investigator Raul Levin while maintaining relationships with his two ex-wives. Brad Furman will direct the film, replacing the previously announced Tommy Lee Jones, who was also scheduled to co-star opposite McConaughey but who left the project last fall. John Romano will write the screenplay for the film, which is scheduled to begin principal photography in July.
Macy, who co-founded the Atlantic Theater Company with David Mamet, has appeared onstage in Mamet's Speed-the-Plow, American Buffalo and Oleanna. Tomei's stage credits include Top Girls, Salome, Waiting for Lefty and SLAVS! Leguizamo's stage appearances include American Buffalo, Sexaholix…a Love Story, Freak, Mambo Mouth and Spic-O-Rama.
