Louise Pitre in Mamma Mia!

A spokesperson for Pitre confirmed that the actress-singer will play Ostrovsky's sister Rose in the new musical, which begins previews at the Prince Music Theater March 6 prior to an official opening March 13. The musical, featuring music by Coleman and lyrics by Coleman and Avery Corman, will play through April 4. No additional casting has been announced, although Alan King played the title role in a recent reading. The Great Ostrovsky, which blends the sounds of vintage Klezmer with traditional Broadway music, will be directed by Douglas C. Wager; Patricia Birch choreographs. The musical tells the story of David Ostrovsky, "an artist of monumental talent, with self-confidence to match, who suddenly finds himself fighting for his own survival in a bustling world of aspiring artists and hustling promoters, left-wing idealists and girls who just want to be stars."

For her performance as Donna in the Canadian, Broadway and touring companies of Mamma Mia!, Louise Pitre received the Dora Mavor Moore Award, the San Francisco Critics Circle Award, the U.S. National Broadway Award as well as a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Her numerous theatrical credits include roles in Piaf; Les Misérables; The World Goes 'Round; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living In Paris and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Pitre’s solo recordings are titled "Songs My Mother Taught Me" and "All of My Life Has Led to This."

The Prince Music Theater is located in Philadelphia at 1412 Chestnut Street at Broad on the Avenue of the Arts. For tickets, call (215) 569-9700; visit www.princemusictheater.org for more information.
