A spokesperson for Pitre confirmed that the actress-singer will play Ostrovsky's sister Rose in the new musical, which begins previews at the Prince Music Theater March 6 prior to an official opening March 13. The musical, featuring music by Coleman and lyrics by Coleman and Avery Corman, will play through April 4. No additional casting has been announced, although Alan King played the title role in a recent reading. The Great Ostrovsky, which blends the sounds of vintage Klezmer with traditional Broadway music, will be directed by Douglas C. Wager; Patricia Birch choreographs. The musical tells the story of David Ostrovsky, "an artist of monumental talent, with self-confidence to match, who suddenly finds himself fighting for his own survival in a bustling world of aspiring artists and hustling promoters, left-wing idealists and girls who just want to be stars."

Her numerous theatrical credits include roles in Piaf; Les Misérables; The World Goes 'Round; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living In Paris and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
