The actor's agent confirmed to Playbill On-Line that Kudisch was currently in negotiations to play the role which sings the first line in the Stephen Sondheim-John Weidman musical. The character sets the anachronistic show in motion by inviting the assassins to a carnival shooting gallery, with the line "C'mere and kill a president."

Kudisch was nominated for a Tony Award for his recent turn in Thoroughly Modern Millie. The actor is contracted with the Joe DiPietro-Jimmy Roberts Off Broadway musical through Feb. 8, 2004. Other credits include Bells Are Ringing, The Wild Party, High Society, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He recently appeared in the New York City Opera staging of A Little Night Music.

Assassins, which debuted at Playwrights Horizons in 1990, centers on nine presidential assassins and would-be assassins. Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Wicked, Take Me Out ) will direct. Paul Gemignani (Into The Woods, Kiss Me, Kate) will serve as musical director.

Beginning previews March 19, 2004, the long-awaited staging will open at Roundabout's new musical home Studio 54, April 22, 2004. This production will mark the musical's Broadway premiere.

Neil Patrick Harris will lead the cast as John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald and Balladeer. Playbill On-Line previously reported actor-comedian Mario Cantone (The Violet Hour) is set to star as Samuel Byck, James Barbour (Jane Eyre) as Leon Czolgosz, Alexander Gemignani as John Hinckley and Michael Cerveris (Tommy) is slated to play John Wilkes Booth. Denis O'Hare (Take Me Out), Becky Ann Baker and Mary Catherine Garrison — who were slated to star in the 2001 Broadway revival before the production was canceled in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — are also expected to join the cast.

Tickets will be made available Feb. 23, 2004 through (212) 719-1300 or online at www.roundabouttheatre.org. The Studio 54 box office will open for Assassins March 5, 2004.
