News "Mariachi Gringo," With Celia Keenan-Bolger, Tom Wopat, Deanna Dunagan and More, to Debut at Miami Film Festival The new film "Mariachi Gringo," featuring Tony Award winner Deanna Dunagan and Tony nominees Kate Burton, Tom Wopat, Celia Keenan-Bolger and musician Lila Downs, will premiere during the opening night of the Miami International Film Festival on March 2.

Tom Gustafson and Cory James Krueckeberg are also the team behind the acclaimed indie musical film "Were the World Mine," which put a gay twist on A Midsummer Night's Dream.

They describe "Mariachi Gringo" as a celebration and exploration of Mexican culture. The film includes 15 musical numbers.

"X-Man" actor Shawn Ashmore leads a cast that also features Dunagan (August: Osage County), Burton (The Constant Wife), Wopat (Catch Me If You Can), Keenan-Bolger (Spelling Bee), Downs (Like Water for Chocolate) and Martha Higareda ("Te Presento A Laura").

Gustafson directed the film, which "follows a small-town mid-western man (Ashmore) as he runs away from his family and journeys to Mexico to follow his dream of being a mariachi," according to Krueckeberg.

Following its Miami world premiere, "Mariachi Gringo" will be screened during the Guadalajara Film Festival on March 5. Kreuckeberg also told Playbill.com that he and Gustafson are working to enlist a current Broadway songwriting team to pen the soundtrack for their upcoming movie musical project.
