News Marian Seldes Honored With Harold Clurman Spirit Award The awards and recognition continue to roll in for recent Deuce star Marian Seldes, who was honored by the Stella Adler Studio of Acting on Sept. 17.

Seldes was presented with the Harold Clurman Spirit Award as part of the closing ceremony to the 2nd annual Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts.

The opening symposium for the Clurman Festival, the focus of which was Art and Social Activism, featured Seldes reading Edward Albee's 1998 speech to the American Council for the Arts. Seldes is a Tony winner for her performance in the premiere of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance, which also featured Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.

Tom Oppenheim, artistic director of the Adler Studio, said in a statement, "Marian Seldes was great friends with both Harold Clurman and Stella Adler and shares their ideals as well as their uncompromisingly high standards. She is truly of one spirit with the Group Theater roots from which we come and has supported us ferociously through the years. She is part of the Adler family and we are happy to present her with this award."

The Clurman Festival of the Arts is a four-day event featuring theatre, concerts, poetry and readings. Harold Clurman co-founded the revolutionary Group Theater in 1931 with Cheryl Crawford and Lee Strasberg. He was married to renowned actress and teacher Stella Adler.

Marian Seldes recently concluded the Broadway run of Terrence McNally's Deuce, starring opposite fellow Tony winner Angela Lansbury. Seldes has been Tony-nominated for her performances in Father's Day, Deathtrap, Ring Round the Moon and Dinner at Eight. Her extensive stage work includes The Play About the Baby, Three Tall Women, Equus and Dedication or the Stuff of Dreams.
