Marian Seldes (Lincoln Center's Ivanov) and comedian Lewis Black (Off-Broadway's Black Humor) have joined the Andrea Martin revival of Thorton Wilder's The Matchmaker at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, due to open July 8. Stage veteran Seldes will play Flora Van Huysen. Black will be featured as Joe.
The Matchmaker is directed by Nicholas Martin, who recently installed You Never Can Tell at Roundabout's Laura Pels. Andrea Martin (no kin) takes the title role of Mrs. Dolly Levi. Martin won a Tony Award for her performance in My Favorite Year and returned to Broadway in 1997's Candide.
The cast also features Lewis J. Stadlen as Vandergelder, Kate Burton at Mrs. Molloy, Tom Bloom, Christopher Fitzgerald, Katie MacNichol, Rob McLachlan, Michael John McGann, and Adam Trese. This comedy, precursor of Hello, Dolly! runs through July 20.
Last summer Martin directed a similarly starry version of Sidney Kingsley's Dead End with Campbell Scott, Robert Sean Leonard, Marian Seldes and Hope Davis.
