Classic Arts News Marin Alsop to Speak at World Economic Forum Meeting Conductor Marin Alsop will speak at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next week.
The 35-year-old organization gathers business and political leaders, scientists, scholars, and cultural figures each year to discuss challenges facing the world. The meeting, often referred to simply as "Davos," runs January 25-29.

According to her publicist, Alsop will speak about "Role Models for the Next Generation," "Leadership and the Musical Mind," "Women and Leadership," and motivation in the workplace.

Kennedy Center president Michael Kaiser, opera director Peter Sellars, and Alexander Pereira, the head of Zurich Opera, are also scheduled to attend, as are such celebrities as Bono and Angelina Jolie.

Alsop made headlines twice last year: first when the Baltimore Symphony appointed her its music director, making her the first woman music director of a major American orchestra, and again when she won a $500,000 MacArthur "genius" grant.
