Marjorie Prime, the Jon Hamm and Geena Davis-led film adaptation of Jordan Harrison’s 2015 play, will receive its New York premiere this summer.
The movie, which won the Feature Film Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, will be released in New York City August 18 prior to a national rollout.
Like the play, the film follows the octogenarian Marjorie and her new companion—a piece of programmed artificial intelligence who bears a likeness to her deceased husband. As this “Prime” feeds on information from Marjorie and her kin, the program develops a more nuanced understanding of the family’s history—though not all memories are rooted in reality.
In addition to Davis and Hamm, the film cast includes Tim Robbins, Stephanie Andujar, and Lois Smith, who starred in the Playwrights Horizon production in December 2015.
The play is also eyeing a Broadway transfer next season.
Emmy winner Paul Walter Hauser will play the late Saturday Night Live actor.
The Emmy-winning actor will play Dr. Dillamond in Jon M. Chu's screen adaptation of the Broadway hit.
The film will be helmed by Todd Phillips, who produced A Star Is Born.
The Hulu comedy mystery series has featured a host of Broadway favorites since 2021.
Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon will direct the Kander and Ebb musical on screen.
The Peter Shaffer West End and Broadway play is getting a new adaptation.
Written and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner Baker, the cast features Julianne Nicholson, Zoe Ziegler, Elias Koteas, Will Patton, and Sophie Okonedo.
