Marni Nixon Sings in The Voice of Hollywood at Four-Night L.A. Event | Playbill

News Marni Nixon Sings in The Voice of Hollywood at Four-Night L.A. Event
Marni Nixon stars in a special four-performance-only event Marni Nixon: The Voice of Hollywood in Los Angeles in October.

Presented by Theatre West at the company's L.A. home, the event will run Oct. 19-22.

Nixon made a career singing as other leading ladies got the glory. Her voice can be heard for Natalie Wood in "West Side Story," Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady," Deborah Kerr in "The King and I" and "An Affair to Remember," Margaret O'Brien in "The Secret Garden," Marie Windsor in "Dakota Lil" and Marilyn Monroe in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." She also provided the singing voice for animated Disney films like "Mary Poppins" and "Mulan."

Now the Altadena opera-trained native takes center stage in a solo evening where she will sing some of her well-known work. The multimedia show will include "a backdrop of clips from Ms. Nixon's famous films, as she sings and evokes the greatest moments of movie musical history," according to show materials.

Nixon is sure to recount some of her tales of Hollywood from her newly-published memoir, "I Could Have Sung All Night" — which will be available for purchase, along with her CDs and DVDs, in the theatre lobby.

Just appearing as Mother Abbess in the Hollywood Bowl's The Sound of Music, the actress can be remembered as the original film's Sister Sophia. Nixon was last seen on Broadway in the 2003 revival of Nine and has also appeared on the Rialto in The Girl in Pink Tights, James Joyce's The Dead and Follies and Off-Broadway in Opal and Taking My Turn. Tickets to Marni Nixon: The Voice of Hollywood at Theatre West, 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West, in Los Angeles, CA, can be purchased by calling (323) 851 7977 or online at
