News Marry Me a Little and Diary of Adam and Eve Presented in Rep in NYC, Aug. 4-15 Short musicals by masters of the form will be presented Off-Off-Broadway Aug. 4-15 when Bock and Harnick's The Diary of Adam and Eve and Stephen Sondheim's Marry Me a Little are wed in repertory.

The small-cast musicals will feature J. Brandon Savage (Boobs! The Musical and Lawyers, Lovers and Lunatics) and introduce Lauren Gruet. Both pieces are directed by Michael Klimzak, with musical direction by Josh Clayton.

The stagings are presented by a company called 4th Interval at the 45th Street Theatre. Admission to each show is separate, though the works are presented consecutively on performance days. If you buy both, admission is $25.

The Diary of Adam and Eve is known as the first act in The Apple Tree (1966), with songs and book by composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me). Based on a comic prose piece by Mark Twain, the humane musical comedy follows Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden as they discover their world, each other and that snake. "What Makes Me Love Him?" is a standout song from the show. (Sol Baird will play the snake.)

Marry Me a Little, meanwhile, is Norman René and Craig Lucas' conceptual packaging of a collection of little-known songs from Stephen Sondheim's trunk (songs that were cut from such well known songs as A Little Night Music, Follies, Saturday Night and more). In the all-sung show, "two single strangers" are "left alone in their studio apartments on a Saturday night passing their time with sweetly secret unshared fantasies, never knowing that they're just a floor away from each other," according to 4th Interval notes. The musical played Off Broadway, is preserved on a cast album and has blossomed on regional theatre.

th Interval previously mounted a revival of the Cy Coleman-Michael Stewart musical I Love My Wife in 2002. The Diary of Adam and Eve will play Monday evenings plus Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:30 PM.

Marry Me a Little will play Monday evenings, and Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 8:30 PM, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3:30 PM.

Tickets are $15 for each production. The 45th Street Theatre is at 354 W. 45th St. Tickets are available now by calling SmartTix at (212) 868-4444 or through www.SmartTix.com.

Savage was most recently seen in Off-Broadway's Boobs! The Musical - The World According to Ruth Wallis. Other credits include the tour of Cy Coleman's new musical, Lawyers, Lovers and Lunatics, and Alvin in 4th Interval's revival of I Love My Wife.

Gruet was most recently seen as Maria in West Side Story at the Broadway Palm West Theater in Phoenix, AZ. She graduated with a BFA from Emerson College in Boston, MA. While in Boston, she wrote and performed her own cabaret piece at Club Café and hosted a musical theatre radio show on one of Boston's top radio stations. This marks her Off-Broadway debut.
