News Marvelous Wonderettes Gets a Next Chapter in Caps & Gowns, Beginning July 3 in CA The Marvelous Wonderettes, the regional and Off-Broadway musical revue about a high-school pop foursome in the 1960s, gets a sequel July 3 with the California world premiere of Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns at Laguna Playhouse in California.

Running to Aug. 12, creator-director Roger Bean's new chapter "takes you to the Springfield High School graduation where we reunite with the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing classic '50s and '60s songs."

Expect "River Deep, Mountain High," "Dedicated To the One I Love," "Rockin' Robin" and more than 20 other classics.

The cast of The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns includes Misty Cotton (The Marvelous Wonderettes, Spitfire Grill and Broadway's Miss Saigon, Les Miserables), Jenna Coker-Jones (The Wedding Singer, Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors), Bets Malone (The Marvelous Wonderettes, Sweeney Todd) and Lowe Taylor (The Marvelous Wonderettes). The band features Eric Heinly on drums, Jack Majdecki on guitar and Alby Potts on keyboard.

The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns is written and directed by Roger Bean, with choreography by Roger Castellano, musical arrangements by Michael Borth, scenic design by Michael Carnahan, costume design by Bobby Pearce and sound design by Laguna Playhouse's Corinne Carrillo.

With music by John Kavanaugh, lyrics by David Goldsmith, book by David Goldsmith & Wendy Perelman and conception by Wendy Perelman, the show is billed this way: "Can't take flight? Neither can these five women trapped together in a boarding area at JFK airport, each with their own hopes, secrets, and desires. This original musical comes to life when this unexpected airport delay forces them to get to know each other in more ways than one. As they share their stories and dreams, they ultimately change one another's destinations for the better, while discovering that they may in fact, already be 'having it all.'"

The Laguna season also includes Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps adapted by Patrick Barlow, Sept. 25-Oct. 21; Plaid Tidings – A Special Holiday Edition of Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross, Nov. 27-Dec. 23; Chapter Two by Neil Simon, Jan. 8-Feb. 3, 2013; Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, directed by Jenny Sullvian, April 30-May 26, 2013; and special engagements of Rita Rudner Aug. 24-26; The Lonesome Travelers in Concert (based on the original production of Lonesome Traveler, witten by James O'Niel, music direction by Dan Wheetman) Aug. 28-Sept. 2; and Late Nite Catechism Las Vegas: Sister Rolls the Dice!, written by Maripat Donovan and directed by Marc Silvia, June 4-23, 2013.
