With a book by Tony Award winner Hugh Wheeler (A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd), music by Lee Pockriss (Earnest in Love) and lyrics by Tony nominee Carolyn Leigh (Peter Pan, Little Me), Gatsby was originally slated to arrive on Broadway in 1970 but never materialized.
Pockriss and Leigh's score will now spread Fitzgerald's green light on stage in a premiere concert directed by Ben West (How Now Dow Jones, Platinum) for UnsungMusicalsCo. Inc. Gatsby will be presented at 7 PM and at 10 PM.
Cavenaugh (Death Takes a Holiday, West Side Story, Grey Gardens) and Powers (Happiness, Dangerous Beauty) join Autumn Hurlbert (Legally Blonde), Megan Sikora (Curtains, How to Succeed...) and Max von Essen (Death Takes a Holiday, Les Miserables), who were previously announced.
Songs from the score include "Toute Suite, Old Sport," "Jazz Age," "Myrtle's Parade," "Wish Me," "Somewhere There's a Party" and "The Fellow in the Yellow Duesenberg."
Gatsby will have arrangements and musical direction by Fran Minarik.
