Stage and recording star Maureen McGovern will assume the role of Mrs. Anna Leonowens May 29 in the national touring company of The King and I.McGovern, who replaced Linda Ronstadt in the Broadway of The Pirates of Penzance and went on to star in 3 Penny Opera opposite rock star Sting, will step into the leading role for four performances at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, May 29-31, and continue on to Portland, OR, June 2, then continue with the rest of the tour. McGovern's pop hits include "There's Got To Be a Morning After" from The Poseidon Adventure. Among her many recordings are the complete scores of George and Ira Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing and Let 'Em Eat Cake.

Also joining the tour in Portland will be Taewon Kim, recreating her Broadway role of Lady Thiang.
