The production is directed and adapted by Miriam Tobin. Fully titled THREE SISTERS: a tale of dreams and woe, this version will feature five characters. Sarah Hartley, Emily Davidson and Alex Vincent are cast as Olga, Masha and Irina, respectively, with Tim Gilligan as Andrei and Charlie Wilson as Ice Queen Natasha.
The production will place the three sisters, forever dreaming of escaping their provincial town for Moscow, on three heaps of discarded personal belongings. According to MBCT notes, "This absurdly humorous adaptation transforms Chekhov's play into a dark, otherworldly fairytale where each of the five characters is based on a natural element of Taoism (Metal, Fire, Wood, Earth, Water), each representing only one part of what should be a balanced whole. In this production, each character will also have unique, highly physical and stylized movements and speech patterns, carrying through the characters’ inability to communicate with one another."
Amanda Tabor will compose an original score inspired by music mentioned in the play (including Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin). Kristian Lazzaro will design the sets, Jimena Villaseca will design the costumes, and Paloma Wake will serve as associate producer.
Performances are Tuesday-Saturdays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 3 PM and Sundays at 5 PM.
