Andrea McArdle, who has played Belle for well over a year on Broadway, will leave Beauty and the Beast on Dec. 6. Taking her place will her long-time understudy, Sarah Litzsinger.

McArdle joined the musical on March 3, 1999, making her run as Belle the longest in the Broadway production's history.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast celebrated its sixth year on Broadway April 18. Currently situated at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, after years at the Palace, Beauty has played more than 2,600 performances.

Beauty and the Beast, which opened at the Palace Theatre on April 18, 1994, was adapted from the popular animated Disney feature by the same name. It features songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton.
