Presented July 14-17, Adam Welsh will direct the version that will inhabit the industrial courtyard space of the Chocolate Factory. MokitaGrit presents the engagement.
McPhail (Mother Courage and Her Children) will portray Romeo, opposite Smith (The Author) as Juliet. The cast will also include Ben Freeman (Grange Hill) as Prince Escalus and Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks) as Lady Capulet.
Completing the company are Jeremy Lloyd Thomas (Capulet), Simon Holmes (Montague), Jonathan Ash (Tybalt), Joseph Creeth (Benvolio), Adam Welsh (Mercutio), Rosalind Blessed (The Nurse), Johnny Sachon (Balthasar), Edward Loach (The Apothecary), Darren Lawrence (Friar Lawrence), Johnny Ong (Friar John) and Jo Gunnell (Rosaline). Team Invision, a troupe blending dance and acrobatics, will also participate.
Here's a look at Mosaica's vision for Romeo and Juliet: "The youth are skateboarders, freerunners, dope smokers and aspiring artistes all caught up in the violence of gang warfare. Fusing movement, music and art with Shakespeare's traditional verse, this edgy production breathes modern energy into a timeless tale."
Neil Layton will provide original music with musical supervision by Michael Kantola, fight direction by Roger Martin and movement direction by Brenda Edwards. For tickets phone 0208 889 2400. The Chocolate Factory is located at Clarendon Road, London.
