Variety reports that the musical — which made a stage star of Robert Lindsay in both the 1985 London and 1987 Broadway productions — is headed back to the West End. Alex Armitage of the Noel Gay Organization, will produce the revival, which is scheduled to begin previews April 29, 2004, prior to a May 11 opening, most likely at the New London Theatre. Me and My Girl features book and lyrics by L. Arthur Rose and Douglas Furber and music by Noel Gay; Stephen Fry revised the book for the eighties production with contributions by Mike Ockrent. The industry paper also reports that Rachel Kavanaugh — whose work has been at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park and at the Royal Shakespeare Company — will direct with choreography by Stephen Mear, whose credits include the current Anything Goes revival and The Witches of Eastwick. Peter (Brand) McKintosh will design the upcoming production. Although no casting has been announced, Armitage told Variety, "This is a show that creates stars rather than has stars in it."

Directed by the late Mike Ockrent, Me and My Girl played Broadway's Marquis Theatre Aug. 1, 1986-Dec. 31. 1989. The original New York company featured Robert Lindsay, Maryann Plunkett, George S. Irving, Jane Connell and Jane Summerhays. The show won three 1987 Tony Awards including trophies for Plunkett, Lindsay and choreographer Gillian Gregory. Song titles include "You Would If You Could," "Once You Lose Your Heart," "The Lambeth Walk," "Leaning on a Lamppost" and "Me and My Girl."
