PlayBlog Meet the New Force Behind Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark (Video) Out with the old, and in with the new. Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark recently played its final performance of director-co-creator Julie Taymor's original vision April 17. A new creative team has signed on to untangle the web of one of the most expensive productions in Broadway history.

Playwright Roberto Aguirre Sacasa (a Marvel comics writer and an acclaimed dramatist), director Philip William McKinley (The Boy From Oz) and choreographer Chase Brock (City Center Encores! Lost in the Stars) have joined the production's creative team to make major changes to the musical. Glen Berger remains on the team as a co-writer.

Here, Sacasa, McKinley and Berger sit down with "Today Show" host Matt Lauer to talk about how the production will incorporate the new changes—including making the musical more family-friendly, focusing on the classic comic book characters, and adding new songs.

The production is currently on a three-week hiatus and will resume performances on May 12. Opening night is set for June 14, after the longest preview period in Broadway history.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, which will return to the Foxwoods Theatre, stars Reeve Carney as Peter Parker, Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane and T.V. Carpio as Arachne.
