Marshall will direct and choreograph the Roundabout Theatre Company's upcoming production of the musical, which will star Harry Connick, Jr., and Kelli O'Hara. Lawrence will play Gladys, the role played by Carol Haney in the original show. As such, she will be featured in two of the show's most famous tunes: "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway." Haney won a Tony Award for her work. No official annoucement of Lawrence's casting has been made.
Lawrence is perhaps best known as the original Little Becky Two Shoes in Urinetown. She later moved into the role of Little Sally in that production. Other musical credits include the world premieres of Over and Over and The Rhythm Club. She won Washington, DC's Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods.
Kelli O'Hara, who was Tony-nominated for her performance as an American innocent in 1960s Florence in The Light in the Piazza, will leave the Lincoln Center production on Dec. 4, to begin rehearsals for The Pajama Game. O'Hara will play Babe Williams opposite Harry Connick, Jr., in the Kathleen Marshall-directed production, due to begin previews Jan. 19, 2006, at the American Airlines Theatre.
