Emmy nominee Melissa Gilbert will once again lead the cast as Gretta in the immersive production of The Dead, 1904, returning to New York this fall for the third year in a row following sold-out runs in 2016 and 2017. As previously reported, The Dead, 1904 will return to the same location at 991 Fifth Avenue, New York, where it will run November 17–January 13, 2019.

The Dead, 1904 is an adaptation of James Joyce’s short story The Dead staged in The American Irish Historical Society’s historic townhouse on the Upper East Side (complete with dinner and wine served in the dining room). The story follows a couple who attend a holiday party in 1904 Dublin.

Rufus Collins will also reprise his role as Gabriel; he and Gilbert will be joined by Kimberly Doreen Burns (Finian’s Rainbow) as Mary Jane, Ciaran Byrne (The Freedom of the City) as Freddy Malins, Peter Cormican (Rothschild & Sons) as Mr. Brown, Terry Donnelly (Crackskull Row) as Mrs. Malins, Meg Hennessy (Closer) as Lilly, Patricia Kilgarriff (Steel Magnolias) as Kate Morkan, Robert Mack (Three Mo’ Tenors) as Bartell D’Arcy, Heather Martin Bixler as Miss Daly, Aedin Moloney (When I was a Girl I used to Scream and Shout) as Molly Ivors, and Patti Perkins (The Full Monty) as Aunt Julia.

The Dead, 1904 is presented by Irish Repertory Theatre, Dot Dot Productions, and The American Irish Historical Society. Joyce’s story is adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon and novelist Jean Hanff Korelitz, with direction by Irish Rep co-founder Ciarán O’Reilly.

The remount will officially open November 29.

Florian Staab (Curvy Widow), properties and interior design by Deirdre Brennan (The Burial at Thebes), and hair and wigs by Robert-Charles Vallance (Jitney).
