In an acting career that spanned over five decades, Ms. Brookes appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in film and television.
Among her many memorable stage performances were roles in Buried Child, Oedipus Rex, Six Characters in Search of an Author (Obie Award), Abelard and Heloise and The House of Blue Leaves. Her film and television work included "Ghost Story," "The Gambler," "Without a Trace" and "Losing Isaiah."
From 1974 until her death, she taught acting technique at Circle in the Square Theatre School.
