It is not clear how much Toll Brothers has agreed to donate to the broadcasts or how long the company's support will last. Joseph Volpe, general manager of the Met, suggested in an interview with the New York Times that the company now had enough funds for the next few seasons.
The Annenberg Foundation and the Vincent A. Stabile Foundation are also continuing to provide support for the broadcasts.
The 2005-06 season of broadcasts begins on December 17 and runs through May 6, 2006. The broadcasts are carried on more than 300 stations in the United States and reach 11 million people in 42 countries.
The upcoming season includes a special broadcast on January 14 commemorating both the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth and the 75th anniversary of the broadcasts with excerpts from past performances. Other highlights from the history of the broadcasts will be heard throughout the season in special intermission features.
