Classic Arts News Metropolitan Opera Guild to Present Gala Tribute to Anna Moffo Anna Moffo, who died on March 9 of this year, was one of the Metropolitan Opera's best-loved sopranos during the 1960s. The Metropolitan Opera Guild will pay homage to her life and work next month with "Anna Moffo — A Celebration," a gala set for Wednesday, September 20 at 7:30 pm at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York.
Sherrill Milnes will host the tribute; scheduled guests, all of whom appeared with Moffo at the Met, include Licia Albanese, Rosalind Elias, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Marilyn Horne, Roberta Peters, George Shirley and RisêŠ Stevens. Film and video clips of Moffo, including several never before seen in the US, will be shown.

Proceeds from the gala will be used to establish the Metropolitan Opera Guild's Anna Moffo Fund, which will, according to a Guild statement, "create and endow a series of annual workshops bringing elementary, high school and college teachers to New York to study the teaching of vocal technique."
