Classic Arts News Mezzo-Soprano Frederica von Stade to Sing on Emmy Telecast Operatic mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade will make an appearance at the Emmy Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on September 18, the Associated Press reports.
Von Stade is one of a number of singers who will perform the themes from classic TV shows. Viewers of the CBS broadcast of the awards will pick their favorite theme by voting online or via text message.

Von Stade is scheduled to appear with William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek, in a performance of the Star Trek theme. Other theme-song performers will include Megan Mullally, of Broadway and TV's Will and Grace, and R & B singer Macy Gray.

The CBS broadcast begins at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings).

Von Stade is in Los Angeles to perform in Offenbach's La Grande-Duchesse de G_rolstein at Los Angeles Opera, in a new production directed by television writer and producer Garry Marshall. The production opens on September 10.
