Gershwin protege Michael Feinstein will celebrate the centennial of composer George with an international concert tour. Feinstein will take his musical tribute, called "The Gershwin Century," to Australia June 1-11, where he will play Sydney and Melbourne, among other cities. He will then return to the U.S., hitting such towns as Oyster Bay, NY (July 12); Oakville, CA (July 18), Foxwoods, CT (Aug. 1); Las Vegas (Aug. 28); Indianapolis (Sept. 16); Fairfield, CT (Sept. 19); and Washington, D.C., where he will perform with The National Symphony on July 4. The concert will be simulcast on PBS.
Feinstein will also release a new Gershwin album, "Nobody But You," later this summer. The entertainer has long been associated with the Gershwins, ever since he worked with lyricist Ira shortly before the composer's death. The exact date of George Gershwin's centennial is Sept. 26, 1998.
