Monologist Mike Daisey, who previously released his play The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs under an open license, has followed suit with his latest play, The Trump Card. As of September 6, Daisey made the script available for download and performance at no cost.

The show, which chronicles Donald Trump’s story from his early days to his nomination as the Republican candidate for President, illuminates Trump’s role in the rise of “dark money” in the U.S., billing him as a “new American archetype—the very first rich man famous exclusively for being rich.”

Daisey announced his plans August 12 on Facebook, saying, “The Trump Card will be released as a script under an open license. Theatre companies will be able to download a transcript of the show from my site, and then take that script and have readings or stage the show fully and have your own productions of The Trump Card anywhere, completely free.”

In a rare move from a theatre writer, he is allowing theatres and individuals to cut and adapt the script as they wish.

Daisey returned to Joe’s Pub in New York August 28 to perform the monologue.
