News   Milk Can to Stage Galileo and Science Plays at Urban Stages
Bertolt Brecht's Galileo and a six-play collection entitled The Science Plays are on the bill for the Milk Can Theatre Company's 2009 spring season at Urban Stages.

Running in repertory from April 30-May 17, Galileo will be paired with the ten-minute Science Plays, which are penned by Milk Can playwrights and document different moments in the history of science. Galileo begins performances April 30, while The Science Plays premiere May 2.

Brecht's Galileo, according to press notes, "chronicles the life and tragic fall from grace of seventeenth century Italian philosopher and mathematician Galileo Galilei. Forced to choose between his scientific discoveries and the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Galileo recants his teachings to spare himself from physical torture."

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer directs a cast that features Matt Biagini, Natalie Caruncho, James Caulfield, Ryan Clardy, Robert A. Felbinger, Alex Herrald, Jed Peterson and Maria Silverman.

The Science Plays include Cheryl L. Davis' The Sense of Genius, featuring Craig Klein and Amy Windle (dir. Riv Massey); Gertrude & Alyce Will Serve Ye Soone by Bethany Larsen, featuring Katie Northlich and Cynthia Rice (dir. Ryan Ratelle); Newton's Genesis by ML Kinney, featuring Meg Mark, J.J. von Mehren and Nicholas Wilder (dir. Bobbi Masters); Riv Massey's Unraveled, featuring Nick Brown, Misty Coy, Dan Evers and Susan Levin (dir. Bethany Larsen); Andy Snyder's Drill, featuring Matthew Campbell, Matthew Minor and Miriam Mintz (dir. Kimberly VerSteeg); and Greener Grass by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, featuring Mary Cavett and Aryeh Lappin (dir. Seth Gamble).
