Dennis McIntyre's Modigliani, a play about the famed Italian-Jewish artist (1884-1920) who lived and worked in Paris, will continue through Jan. 30, 2000, at the Met Theatre, starring Matthew Klein. Dan Polier directs. McIntyre's drama looks at Modigliani during a critical time in his life, a few days in 1916, when the painter was battling poverty and the narrow-minded art world. Other aspects of the play include a love story and a dramatization of Modigliani's relationships with such artists as Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine (the subject of a recent major exhibition at the L.A. County Museum) and Picasso.

Others in the cast include Doug Budin, Meredyth Hunt, Gerald McCullouch, Randall Rapstine and Tom Waldman. The Met Theatre is located at 1089 N. Oxford Ave. For tickets and information call (323) 957-1152. -- By Willard Manus
